Biography: Dr. George
Triantaphyllidis (male; born in 1967) studied Biology in the Aristotle
University of Thessaloniki (Greece, 1986-1990). He holds a Ph.D. in Applied
Biological Sciences from the University of Ghent (Belgium, 1991-1995) and he
contacted post-doctoral Research at the National Centre for Marine Research in
Greece and at the University of Athens (1997-1999). Since June 1999, he is
working in the private sector (Nireus Consultants (1999-2001), LAMANS
Management Services (2001-2014) and freelance consultant since 7/2014, in the field
of R&D and specialized consulting for Blue Growth, including fisheries
& aquaculture related projects and maritime spatial planning (MSP). He has been involved on more
than 80 national and international projects and consultancies, having expanded
the areas of services provided to project management, environmental impact
assessments, design of technical assistance, business planning, re-engineering,
research and development planning and procurement procedures, working with
multidisciplinary RTD teams. He is an appointed Consultant of the Mediterranean
Advisory Council (MEDAC) for 2020 to provide professional consultancy services
concerning climate change, alien species, by-catch and Landing Obligation and
plastics and pollution for ecosystem services, which include fisheries.
He has 21 years Professional experience of which more than 18 years experience in the field of regional development, fisheries and aquaculture. He also has 12 years experience in projects for establishment and management of allocated zones for aquaculture (AZAs), in the context of maritime spatial planning (Aquaculture Parks identification, organisation, development operations and financial and environmental management) with involvement in 12 projects in Greece (8 between 2002-2009 and 4 between 2014-2017) and in Egypt (proposals for the establishment of AZAs in 2009 and 2012). He has published 23 peer-reviewed articles and 22 publications in refereed conference proceedings as well as numerous reports in European and National RTD projects and consultancies. He is currently working in RTD projects with the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) and the Agricultural University of Athens.
